JOHNNY DEPP felt "privileged" to replace HEATH LEDGER in new movie THE IMAGINARIUM OF DR. PARNASSUS, describing the late star as a "thundering and ungovernable talent".
Ledger was midway through making the movie when he died from an accidental drug overdose in January 2008.
Director Terry Gilliam chose to fill his character in the remaining scenes with an ensemble cast of Jude Law, Colin Farrell and Depp, who starred in his 1998 movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
Depp admits it was tough filling the Oscar winner's shoes, but he felt honoured to share the screen with an actor he admired.
He tells Moviefone.com, "Though the circumstances of my involvement are extremely heartrending and unbelievably sad, I feel privileged to have been asked aboard to stand in on behalf of dear Heath...
"He was the only player out there breathing heavy down the back of every established actor's neck with a thundering and ungovernable talent that came up on you quick, hissing rather mischievously with that cheeky grin, 'Hey... get on out of my way boys, I'm coming through!' And does he ever!"

I admit that my attention was drawn away from Heath for a number of years by Johnny, I was constantly on the net looking at pics of him on messageboards etc. But I always remained a fan of Heaths. Then when Heath passed my attention was drawn back, I'm so glad an actor I admire is Johnny because he is so kind.

Im not a huge fan of Johnny's but i think he's a great actor,and kinda has that vibe Heath had,like he doesn't give a damn because he's a normal down to earth guy,im so proud he said those things about Heath! i love that Heath's fearless spirit is recognized by someone as admired as Johnny,maybe ppl will stop missunderstanding him so much hearing what Johnny had to say.

I like Johnny also, but when I first saw Heath in the Patriot he was always there..
But this is very nice of him.

I once read somewehere that Johnny has his own island, and named one part oh the beach Heaths place..
