Candy (2006) ***1/2 of ****. [Heath Ledger, Abbie Cornish] A tale of self destruction via heroin addiction where we have some sympathy for the couple, but just as much contempt for their choices. The direction is straight on, and the humor is well placed and executed. The audience will by absorbed by the acting skills used in portraying these characters. The cinemaphotography puts the locations to good use in creating a genuine feel. The sound work needs some more work. There were critical parts that needed subtitles, and that absence left us wondering what was going on with the conclusion. It needed a bit more dialog as to why they were failures, and why they made certain choices, although we can make some guesses by the end. *spoiler*Question: Why the hell didn't they go for the methadone right away when they decided to quit, & why would anyone turn to drugs when they have an Abbie at home, I don't get that?
